Tile cracking over a liquid screed floor tends to follow patterns: straight lines that run across multiple tiles usually mean movement in the substrate, while isolated single cracks are more often impact damage or a localised bonding fault.
Because the tile is the visible symptom, it's easy to assume the tiler is at fault — but a correctly laid tile over a screed that's still curing, that has an unaddressed shrinkage crack, or that lacks a decoupling layer where one was needed will crack regardless of how well it was fixed.

What we check before blaming the tiler
- Whether the screed was fully dry and within moisture threshold before tiling started
- Whether a decoupling/anti-fracture membrane was specified and installed where movement was expected
- Whether any shrinkage crack in the screed was treated before tiling rather than tiled straight over
- Whether movement joints in the tile layout line up with movement joints in the screed

Map the cracks

Lift a sample tile if needed to inspect the screed surface and any crack beneath it.

Address the root cause
Resin-inject or bridge a screed crack, add a decoupling layer, or correct cover depth as needed.

Replace affected tiles
Once the underlying cause is fixed, cracked tiles are replaced against a stable substrate.
