Beam and block ground floors are common across new-build developments in Devon and Somerset, and the finish laid over the structural beams and blocks is often treated as an afterthought — but it decides your UFH performance, flatness and how quickly the trades behind you can move.

A traditional approach is a sand-cement topping screed, sometimes reinforced, poured directly over the blocks. A liquid screed system does the same structural job but with different flatness, drying and UFH-compatibility characteristics.
