Gypsol is the anhydrite screed you'll see specified most often on regional housebuilder plots and on architect-led self-builds across the South West. Owned by Saint-Gobain and batched in the UK, it comes with the paperwork, the datasheets and the manufacturer support you'd expect from a big brand.
For most residential UFH pours it does exactly the job. Pour, level, spike-roll, protect for 48 hours, then dry to spec — and you're onto the follow-on trades faster than any hand-laid alternative.
Where Gypsol shines
- Self-build UFH pours from 30mm cover upwards
- Big open-plan ground floors with no shrinkage-joint chases
- Programmes where a named, insured product spec is required
- Retrofit UFH over existing slabs where a low-depth pour is critical
Gypsol vs Gyvlon — do you actually need to choose?
Gypsol Premier / ThermIO
- UK-batched by Saint-Gobain
- Widely spec'd on regional housebuilder plots
- Excellent low-depth performance over UFH
Gyvlon Screed / Thermio+
- Made by Anhydritec, longest UK track record
- Broad range including fibre-reinforced mix
- Similar performance envelope
The honest answer
In day-to-day installation the difference between Gypsol and Gyvlon is small enough that most homeowners will never notice. Both self-level, both encapsulate UFH pipework the same way, both need laitance sanding before tiling.
The choice usually comes down to who's supplying — the ready-mix plant closest to your site will typically stock one or the other, and haulage cost from further afield often outweighs any small technical preference.
