Most delays or extra charges on pour day come down to one thing: the site wasn't quite as ready as everyone assumed. Insulation with a gap, a UFH manifold not yet pressure-tested, or a doorway blocked by a delivery of kitchen units can all mean a wasted crew visit.
None of this is complicated to get right — it just needs checking off deliberately before the day, ideally by whoever's managing the build programme as well as by us on our pre-pour inspection.
This is the checklist we run through, shared here so your builder or site manager can work to the same list.
Before we arrive, the site should have
- Insulation boards fully laid, jointed and taped with no gaps
- Damp-proof membrane installed, lapped and taped, turned up at the perimeter
- Edge-strip foam fitted around the full perimeter and any upstands
- UFH pipework clipped down to the design layout and pressure-tested
- All other trades cleared from the pour area, with clean access maintained
Common prep issues and what they cause
| Issue found on inspection | Likely consequence |
|---|---|
| Untaped membrane joints | Delay while it's fixed, or pour rescheduled |
| UFH not pressure-tested | Pour paused until testing is confirmed |
| Blocked access route | Wasted crew time or a rescheduled visit |
| Missing edge-strip foam | Risk of screed bonding to walls, cracking on movement |
