Screeding Around an Underfloor Heating Manifold

Every UFH loop on a project runs back to a manifold, and that manifold usually sits recessed into a wall or stud cavity at a height set before the screed goes down. Because the manifold cabinet, pipework stubs and often electrical actuators all converge in one small area, it's the single trickiest detail to get right during a pour — and one of the most common places we're called back to after another contractor's screed job.
Problems here range from cosmetic — screed splashed up into the cabinet — to structural, where the finished floor level doesn't match the manifold's fixed connection height, leaving pipework under strain.

How we protect and level around a manifold

Confirm manifold height first
We check the fixed manifold height against the design finish floor level before scheduling the pour.

Mask and seal the cabinet
The manifold cabinet and any electrical actuators are fully sheeted and taped before screed arrives.

Set a local datum
An extra datum pin is placed close to the manifold to guarantee the level matches exactly at the connection point.

Pour and check immediately
The area is checked with a straight edge as soon as the pour reaches it, while it's still workable.

Unmask and inspect
Protection is removed once the screed has set enough to walk on, confirming no splash contamination.

- Manifold cabinet left unprotected, screed splashed into valves and actuators
- Finish level set without checking the manifold's fixed connection height
- Pipe stubs left uncapped, allowing screed slurry to enter the pipework
