Underfloor heating and liquid screed are a natural pairing: the screed encapsulates the pipework and acts as the thermal mass that spreads heat evenly across the floor. Most of the liquid screed poured across Devon today sits over some form of UFH.

Whether you're quoted UFH and screed as one combined package or as two separate contracts (UFH supply-and-fit, then screed pour) depends on who you're working with. Either arrangement can work well, but the split needs to be clear so nothing falls through the gap between trades.

Here's what's specific to UFH pricing within a screed job, regardless of who's supplying the heating system itself.

What UFH adds to a screed job

  • Pressure-testing the pipework before and during the pour, and keeping it under pressure throughout
  • Confirming minimum cover over the pipe — typically 30mm bonded, more if unbonded
  • Careful clipping and checking pipe layout against the manifold design before we pour
  • Agreeing a commissioning heat-up curve with your heating installer once the screed has dried

How a combined UFH-and-screed job typically runs

    Design handover

    We review the manifold and pipe-spacing plan from your heating designer or installer.

  2. 2

    Pre-pour pressure test

    Pipework is pressure-tested and left under pressure through the pour.

  3. 3

    Pour to cover depth

    Screed is poured to the agreed minimum cover over the pipe.

  4. 4

    Drying, then commissioning

    Once the screed reaches the required moisture level, first heat is applied per manufacturer guidance.

Confirm who's responsible for the pressure test — us, your heating installer, or both — before pour day, not on it.
