How to Measure Your Floor for a Screed Quote
An accurate m² figure gets you a far more useful initial quote — here's how to measure without a site visit.

You don't need a survey to get a useful indicative figure — a reasonably accurate set of measurements will do. Getting the area right at the enquiry stage means the range we come back with is actually meaningful, rather than needing a big correction once we've seen the site.
Most mistakes at this stage are simple: forgetting an alcove, measuring to the wrong wall face, or not accounting for a step in level between rooms. None of these are hard to avoid once you know what to look for.
Here's the method we'd suggest if you're measuring your own floor plan before contacting us.
How to measure floor area for a screed quote

Measure room by room
Measure length and width of each room at floor level, wall face to wall face, and multiply for area.

Include alcoves and bays
Add these as separate small rectangles rather than trying to estimate them into the main room figure.

Exclude areas that won't be screeded
Stairwells, existing floors staying as they are, and any area with a different finish level.

Note any changes in level
Flag steps between rooms or split-level areas — these usually mean separate pour zones.

Total and round sensibly
Sum all room areas and round up slightly to allow for wastage and irregular shapes.
Details worth noting alongside your measurements
- Rough target depth if you know it, or whether UFH is planned
- Whether any rooms are at a different finish level to others
- Access route from the road or driveway to the pour area
- Whether the floor plan is for one continuous pour or several separate visits

Self-measured areas are a great starting point, but a site visit (or detailed drawings) lets us check things a tape measure alone can't — subfloor condition, exact insulation thickness and real pump access. Treat your own measurement as the basis for an indicative range, with the written quote following a proper check.
