The single biggest reason two screed quotes look wildly different is that they're not actually quoting the same scope. One might include insulation supply, edge-strip foam and a laitance-sanding return visit; another might exclude all three and look cheaper purely on paper.

We'd rather you compared us properly than won a job because our quote happened to look shorter. So here's the checklist we use internally, laid out so you can hold any quote — ours included — against it.

Print this, or keep it open next to whatever quotes land in your inbox.

Every quote should state these clearly

  • Exact screed product or type (e.g. Cemfloor CT-C30-F6, Gyvlon Thermio+)
  • Target depth in mm, and whether that's bonded or unbonded
  • Total area (m²) and volume (m³) the price is based on
  • Whether insulation, membrane and edge-strip are supplied or assumed already in place
  • Pump access assumptions — hose run length, whether a relay is included
  • What happens if subfloor prep isn't ready on the day (return-visit charge or not)

Questions worth asking before you sign

Is this quote fixed, or is it an estimate that could move once you're on site? A proper written quote should say which.

What's excluded? Every legitimate quote has exclusions — the question is whether they're stated or buried.
