What an installation involves

Site survey
We visit, measure and assess your subfloor, insulation and underfloor heating layout.

Fixed-price quote
Screed depth, mix, prep and timing in one figure per m² — back to you within 24 hours.

Preparation
Perimeter edge foam, taped polythene membrane, UFH pressure-tested and clipped down, laser datum pins set to finish level.

Pump day
Mixer on the drive, hose fed through the property. Pumped, not barrowed — a typical 200 m² floor goes down in a single morning.

Dapple & finish
Crossed passes with the dappling bar to break surface tension and release air, leaving a level SR1 surface within 2mm.

Protect & dry
No traffic for 24–48 hours, then controlled drying. Anhydrite surfaces get the laitance sanded before tiling.
What it costs

Drying, honestly
Walk-on time is 24–48 hours for liquid screed, versus 3–7 days for traditional sand and cement. Walk-on is not the same as ready for finishes — full drying depends on depth and site conditions, and we plan it with you. Tight programme? See fast-drying screed.
Over underfloor heating
A standard UFH pour is 50–65mm, fully encapsulating the pipework for thermal performance. Edge insulation and pipe checks add typically £2–£4/m². More in our underfloor heating screed guide.

Liquid screed is walk-on in 24–48 hours, against 3–7 days for traditional sand and cement. Full drying before floor finishes takes longer and depends on depth and conditions — we give you the plan for your floor on the quote.
How much does screed floor installation cost in Exeter?
As a guide: £28–£36/m² under 50 m², £22–£28/m² for 50–150 m², £18–£24/m² for 150–500 m², and £15–£20/m² above 500 m². Underfloor heating pours typically add £2–£4/m².
