The large, open floor plates typical of a barn conversion are close to ideal for liquid screed — a single big pour, minimal internal walls to work around, and often a genuine chance to lay a whole ground floor in one visit. That efficiency usually works in your favour on price.

What needs more thought on a barn job is rural access: long or narrow farm tracks, field-gate widths, soft ground for plant, and sometimes a fair distance from the nearest hard road for the pump or ready-mix truck.

This page covers what's specific to barn conversion pricing across our Devon and Somerset patch.

What we assess on a rural barn site

  • Track and gateway widths for the pump, mixer or ready-mix vehicle
  • Ground conditions — soft or unmade tracks may need trackway or a different plant approach
  • Distance from a hard road, which affects hose length or relay needs
  • Existing slab condition where the barn already has one, versus a new slab poured as part of the conversion

Why a rural survey visit is worth doing early

Because access varies so much from one barn to the next, we'd always rather see the track and gateway in person, or get clear photos and measurements, before finalising a quote — a figure based on a typical suburban driveway simply doesn't transfer to a farm site.

Booking that survey early also gives us time to plan plant and crew properly around a rural site, which tends to keep the final cost closer to the original estimate.
