Liquid Screed for Workshops and Maker Spaces

Robust screed floors suited to the tool use, bench work and foot traffic typical of workshops, studios and small fabrication spaces.

Workshops and maker spaces — from joinery and metalwork shops to community fabrication studios — need a floor that stands up to dropped tools, bench legs, trolleys and repeated foot traffic without becoming uneven over time. A well-specified liquid screed provides a flat, dense base that supports these everyday demands.

Because workshop spaces are frequently converted from existing buildings, including barns, outbuildings and former retail or light industrial units, the screed often has to work with an existing slab or floor structure rather than a fresh new-build base, which affects preparation and detailing decisions.

Underfloor heating is a common addition in workshop conversions where a comfortable working environment is wanted without wall-mounted heaters interrupting bench or storage layouts, and liquid screed's good contact with heating pipework suits this application well.

Working with existing structures

Many workshop projects involve converting an existing building rather than building new. Assessing the condition, level and moisture status of the existing slab is an important first step, as it determines whether the screed can be bonded directly, laid over a separating membrane, or needs additional preparation.

Comfort and heating

Where a workshop is used for extended periods, underfloor heating embedded in the screed can provide background warmth across the whole floor area without obstructing wall space needed for benches, racking or tool storage.
